Research and environmental education at the centre of teaching at DSB1, our Italian partners

For the entire school year 2021/22, the topic of research and environmental education is at the centre of teaching at the Middle School Bruneck I.

The Montessori classes use one day a month and let the children be explorers and scientists. They choose a topic of their own liking, look for like-minded people in the other classes and organise their work independently. Research, Investigation, Challenge, Acting are keywords in this project. One group investigated e.g., what makes rockets fly and built a rocket themselves.

In addition, the Montessori pupils have a science lessons every other week, where both the science and the English teacher are present (Science Meets English). There they do experiments, the main topics are environmental protection and ways to reduce one’s own ecological footprint. In the first months, experiments on photosynthesis and plant growth were carried out, and washing powder and vinegar cleaner were made.

Before Christmas the children made bathing salt and decorated their product nicely. I am sure their loved ones were surprised to find a home made bathing salt under the Christmas tree.

The school’s own library is also taking part in a reading competition for the annual theme of SpaceBuzz (& SPACE Consortium) and environmental protection. The students create their own bookmarks.

The school’s library is also participating in the programme!
